Lighting in Interior Design
Lighting is such an important element in interior design for many different reasons. In your space, it serves many different purposes, whether it’s illuminating the room or a small wall sconce to keep your reading nook cozy. When working on our designs, we think about style and functionality. There are three main types of lighting we use in each space.
A few reasons lighting is important in your design:
It creates ambiance in your space
It adds style
Helps in spaces where lighting isn’t prominent
It can also pull a design together by being the statement piece in the room while serving a purpose
In this mid-century modern kitchen above, the globes were both a statement and added the light in the place it was needed!
Types of lighting in your space.
There are three main types of lighting we use in design. When laying out your space, it’s important to think about these as well as the placement and size.
Accent Lighting
Accent lighting provides style and decor and to light up an object specifically. Like that cozy lamp over your fluffy chair in your reading nook.
Ambient Lighting
Can also be known as general lighting. It provides illumination and sets the tone for the room.
Task Lighting
Provides lights for specific tasks in the room.
