Let’s talk Limewash..

Limewash is BIG in the design industry now, and we can see why. It’s textured, functional, versatile, and an easy way to add design into a space!

What is Limewash?

Limewash is a natural, eco-friendly paint made from crushed limestone, water, and natural pigments. Limewash can be used on interior or exterior surfaces like brick, plaster, stucco, and cement. It has been used for centuries and was a staple in Roman homes.

Why do we like it?

There are a many reasons we like it and even decided to use it in our showroom located here in Tacoma! Here are the main ones:

  1. It’s breathable, non-toxic, AND eco-friendly.

  2. It has a high ph level which means it is bacteria AND mold resistant.

  3. It contains no VOCs, which are Volatile Organic Compounds, and since it doesn’t have these, it’s practically odorless!

  4. We love it’s chalky texture that creates that old world, romantic feel.

We paired it with a natural stone look and pendant lights and we love the final result.

There are a couple of slight disadvantages, however, they are very minor and we don’t believe the cons outweigh the pros! Here’s a couple:

  1. You may have to touch it up every few years. (BUT, if you’re someone who likes change, it could be perfect!

  2. Due to the high ph level, it could be a skin irritant, so as with almost everything else in remodeling, wear skin protection such as coveralls, gloves, etc.!

  3. Some people don’t like the texture - it’s always a good idea to try before you buy!

Here’s a few more shots from our showroom to highlight the texture! Shoutout to Taylor over at Kemp & Co. for helping this project come to life! See you next week!
